National Ice Laboratory | Lakewood, CO
Project
The National Ice Laboratory is responsible for the safe storage and curation of ice cores collected primarily by National Science Foundation sponsored projects. MDP provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for the 8,000 sq. ft. retrofit of this expansive walk-in freezer storage facility. The main archive maintains a constant temperature of -36°C. A second room for examination of ice cores is held at -25°C and is contiguous with the archive area. There is also a Class-100 HEPA-filtered, cold clean-room and space outside for material fabrication, storage, changing areas, and offices.
